📖 About Holi

Holi, the Festival of Colors, celebrates the arrival of spring and the triumph of good over evil. In 2026, Holi falls on Wednesday, March 4, with Holika Dahan on Tuesday, March 3.

Significance

Holi celebrates the victory of good over evil, commemorated through the legend of Prahlad and Holika. It also marks the eternal love of Radha and Krishna, with Krishna playfully applying colors to Radha's face. The festival signifies the end of winter and the arrival of spring, representing new beginnings and the rejuvenation of nature. It's a time when social barriers dissolve as people of all backgrounds come together to play with colors. Holi also celebrates the victory of devotion, as demonstrated by Prahlad's unwavering faith in Lord Vishnu despite his father Hiranyakashipu's persecution.

📜 Mythology & Stories

The legend of Prahlad and Holika forms the core mythology of Holi. Prahlad was a devoted follower of Lord Vishnu, but his father Hiranyakashipu, a demon king, demanded to be worshipped as a god. When Prahlad refused, Hiranyakashipu's sister Holika, who had a boon of being immune to fire, sat with Prahlad in a burning pyre. However, Prahlad's devotion protected him, and Holika was burnt to ashes. This event is celebrated as Holika Dahan on the eve of Holi. Another legend connects Holi to Lord Krishna, who was dark-skinned and complained to his mother Yashoda about Radha's fair complexion. Yashoda playfully suggested he color Radha's face, starting the tradition of playing with colors.
