Krishna Janmashtami 2026

कृष्ण जन्माष्टमी

📅 Friday, 4 September 2026

📖 About Krishna Janmashtami

Krishna Janmashtami celebrates the birth of Lord Krishna, the eighth avatar of Vishnu. In 2026, it falls on Friday, September 4, with midnight being the most auspicious time for worship.

Significance

Krishna Janmashtami marks the birth of Lord Krishna, one of the most beloved deities in Hinduism. Born at midnight in a prison cell in Mathura, Krishna's birth came to end the tyranny of his uncle, the evil King Kamsa. The festival celebrates the divine birth that brought hope to the world, as Krishna went on to become the great teacher who gave humanity the Bhagavad Gita, the spiritual guide that teaches the path of righteousness, devotion, and action. Krishna's life represents the perfect blend of humanity and divinity, showing how one can lead a meaningful life while maintaining spiritual consciousness.

📜 Mythology & Stories

According to Hindu scriptures, the evil King Kamsa of Mathura imprisoned his sister Devaki and her husband Vasudeva after a prophecy foretold that their eighth child would kill him. Kamsa killed their first seven children. When Krishna was born at midnight, miraculously all the guards fell asleep, and Vasudeva's chains broke. He carried baby Krishna across the flooding Yamuna river to Gokul, where he was raised by foster parents Yashoda and Nanda. Krishna grew up as a playful child in Vrindavan, stealing butter, playing with the gopas (cowherds), and enchanting the gopis with his flute. Eventually, he returned to Mathura and killed Kamsa, fulfilling the prophecy.
